Couple arrested for killing daughter for sneaking out of school

Police in Kenya are probing a case where a father, mother and brother to a 15-year-old girl, are suspected to have beaten her to death on Thursday night for failing to go to school after sneaking from home.

According to Directorate Criminal Investigation (DCI), the management of Coptic hospital told detectives that on May 20 at around 9pm, the hospital received a 15-year-old patient, who was a student at Kiteta Girls Secondary in Mbooni, Makueni County.

“She was accompanied by her father, Frankline Ntwiga Marangu for medical check-ups since she had allegedly run away from home and failed to report at school,” Norine Mwende a clinical officer at Coptic hospital told police.

The learner was examined and discharged. The father took her back home.

“However, in the wee hours of Friday, May 21, the girl was rushed to the same hospital after she allegedly collapsed at home following a serious beating from her father, mother Benedetta Mbeni Muthoka and the girl’s elder brother Ntwiga Ian Marangu who is a student at Technical University of Kenya,” DCI said.

The learner was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the clinical officer, the girl’s body had bruises all over, a sign she says indicates grievous assault and body harm.

“Detectives from DCI Kilimani who visited the scene recovered one PPR pipe believed to have been used to beat up the deceased and is being held as an exhibit,” DCI revealed.

The three suspects are in police custody at Kilimani police station to help sleuths in investigations. Plans for a postmortem on the body which lies at Coptic hospital morgue is underway.
