Dzaleka Refugees Ask For Permits To Trade Outside The Camp

Members of the refugee community that have been plying their trade outside Dzaleka Refugee Camp are appealing to authorities to issue them trading permits.

It comes against a background of the government’s order to have all those that are outside the camp relocate to Dzaleka.

On Tuesday the High Court lifted an injunction which was obtained by some of the refugees living and trading outside the camp, which stopped the relocation process.

But  some of them are of the view that the government should consider granting those trading some permits with conditions.

A Congolese national who has now relocated to Dzaleka Refugee Camp, suggests taxation as one of the conditions that can be attached to the proposed permits.

However, Economic commentator Betchani Tchereni is of the view that as much as the government would benefit from putting tax payment as a condition, such an arrangement has implications.

The Ministry of Trade through its Spokesperson Mayeso Msokera, is indicating that it will continue to enforce laws on trade involving foreign nationals.
