Malawi Police Warns People Against Circulating Fake News On Social Media

The Malawi Police Service has disclosed that it will take action on people involved in recording and circulating fake security news through social media.

A few days ago, an audio was in circulation alleging that a female student from the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences had been abducted at a bridge near Kamba Trading Centre in Blantyre.

Police investigations, however revealed that no one was missing or abducted.

Another fake audio was also in circulation, alleging running battles between police and communities around Machinjiri Township in Blantyre.

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera has confirmed the development.

Kadadzera said that the law will be applied in line with the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act.
