A Local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called Uhuru Child Care has urged government and the public to intervene in efforts aimed at bailing out children with cerebral palsy from various challenges they are facing.
The Board Chairman for Uhuru Child Care, Bishop Mpire Kamanga made the call when the organization presented a petition to Kasungu District Council as one way of alerting the relevant government authorities to intervene.
“We are taking this rare opportunity to appeal to the government to help address shortages of physiotherapists in the district and to ensure children are enrolled in schools and are provided with necessary support,” he said.
Kamanga said away from lack of education support that these vulnerable children and their mothers are passing through, lack of basic health care support was a huge burden that needs extreme attention from public and private institutions.
Receiving the letter on behalf of Kasungu District Commissioner (DC), Director of Administration (DOA), Thomas Chigwenembe assured the gathering that all complaints packed in the petition would be delivered to the relevant departments for action.
Uhuru Child Care is working with religious and traditional leaders with the aim of promoting the understanding of the disease among the rural populous and wipe out norms and beliefs against these vulnerable group.
