UNFPA Funds Teen Mothers To Go Back To School In Nsanje

Over 50 girls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies and marriages in the area of Senior Chief Mlolo in Nsanje have gone back to school.

This follows  a three year UNFPA funded Lekani Nkhanza project, being implemented by Rural Development Support Trust (RUDESUT).

The Organization’s Programs Officer, Lumbiwe Zimba has confirmed the development.

Zimba said its  organization has safe spaces forum, through which adolescent and young women of 10 to 24 years discuss issues regarding their rights, sexual and reproductive health and entrepreneurship and business management issues.

According to Lumbiwe, through the initiative, the girls are getting scholastic support including school fees especially those in secondary schools.

The Organization’s Executive Director, Aubrey Jeke, has however lamented that the absence of a court in the area is affecting justice delivery especially on defilement cases, saying currently they are being forced to hire a court from Blantyre.
