Government to return impounded ‘Kabaza’ Motorcycles free of charge

The government through the Ministry of Homeland Security will from Tuesday next week, start giving back motorcycles that the police impounded from motorcycle ‘Kabaza’ operators.

Minister of Homeland Security, Richard Chimwendo Banda made the announcements in parliament saying the ministry has decided to give back the motorcycles to the owners free of charge.

According to the Minister, as it stands now, police will release about 5, 000 motorcycles that were confiscated from the operators.

The government has also given motorbike taxi operators a 30-day official pardon to buy and use helmets and register with the road traffic department before resuming business.

Chimwendo Banda added that government has, through the Ministry of Transport, identified a firm that will assist in training motorcycle operators at a subsidized fee of 20, 000 Kwacha from 150, 000 Kwacha.

Meanwhile, Motorcycle Operators Associations will be engaged so that the motorcycles are released to true owners.
