500 workers to be retrenched at Malawi Posts Corporation

Over 500 employees are on the verge of losing their jobs at Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC) following a Human Resource Audit.

The audit revealed that the company is supposed to only have 300 employees and not 804 as at the moment.

Meanwhile, according to a circular seen by the press, the corporation is calling for applications for voluntary retrenchment from its employees.

However, while confirming the authenticity of the circular, spokesperson of MPC, Idah Nkolimbo, said the communication is being taken out of context by the public and that MPC will make official communication about the matter in due course.

MPC has a debt of over 9.3 billion Kwacha and its employees have gone months without pay.

Recently its employees went on strike across the country over salary arrears.
