Five people killed in road accident

Five people have died while six others sustained serious injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road accident on Thursday.

Kanengo Police spokesperson, Esther Mkwanda, said the accident occurred at Chang’ombe Trading Centre along Lilongwe – Salima road.

The driver of the motor vehicle, Toyota 2 – tonne pick-up, was driving from Kasungu to Dowa with 18 passengers on board.

She said on arrival at the said place, his pick-up collided head-on with a Foden Tipper driven by Patrick Kazembe, 36, who hails from Mtanda village in Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa District.

According to Mkwanda, following the impact, the pick-up went to the extreme offside of the road where it overturned and that three men and two women were confirmed dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
