Mchinji Police Rescues Nine People Being Trafficked To Zambia

Mchinji police have intercepted nine people including four children who were being trafficked to neighbouring Zambia to work in farms.

The children are between the ages of two and 10.

According to the police, these people were allegedly picked by Masautso Martin from Mangochi Village in Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe.

Mchinji police station officer Charles Mpezeni states that they were intercepted at Maula Village in Mchinji using unchartered routes into Zambia.

The Malawi News Agency reports that two weeks ago 13 other people including seven minors were also rescued by the police in the district.

They were being trafficked to Zambia to work in tobacco estates.

Mpezeni has revealed that they have made several arrests on human trafficking charges in the recent months after erecting adhoc roadblocks.
