Road Accidents Claim 12 Lives In A Day

At least 12people have lost their lives in two separate accidents that happened yesterday.

National police spokesperson James Kadadzera has confirmed in a press statement seen by this publication.

According to Kadadzera, the first accident occurred in the wee hours of Monday, September 13, 2021 at Katengeza along Salima-Lilongwe M12 road.

The accident involved a minibus which lost control due to a tire burst, according to Kadadzera 7 lives of passengers were lost while 11 other people sustained various degrees of injury.

The second accident occurred along Chawe road in Zomba district and involved a 3 tonner lorry loaded with timber pranks which is believed to be speeding, collided with an incoming motor vehicle.

“Due to the impact the driver of the lorry and four passengers died on the spot. 7 other passengers escaped with various degree of injury,” said Kadadzera.

The police publicist then reminded road users to be following all road safety rules and regulations all the time.

He also warned drivers of carrying passengers in goods vehicles saying that they are not protected in times of accidents.
