FIVE MORE WITNESSES TO BE PARADED IN FORMER MERA CEO MAGALASI ABUSE OF OFFICE CASE

Lilongwe Magistrates Court has set 28 October as the next date for the fourth State witness in the case involving former CEO of the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) Collins Magalasi.
Magalasi who is answering charges of Abuse of office is being accused of using MERA funds amounting to K10.5 million to pay for accommodation for some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials who had traveled for a party convention in Blantyre.
On Tuesday, September 28, the State paraded its third witness Mumderanji Chapalapata who works as Financial Accountant at MERA.
However, the State could not parade the fourth witness who was not available on Tuesday.
Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Msekandiana adjourned the case to 28 October.
In an interview, Director of Public Prosecution, Steve Kayuni said the State has a total of eight witnesses and five are yet to come.
