ACB Ready for Mpinganjira’s Appeal

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has expressed its readiness to take head on an appeal by business mogul Thom Mpinganjira.
On Tuesday, 5th October, The High Court in Blantyre sentenced Mpinganjira to nine-year jail with Hard labor in the attempted judge bribery case.
Speaking to the media, the lawyer representing the business magnet, Patrice Nkhono who said his client will appeal against his conviction and sentence.
Responding to the sentiment made by Nkhono, Solicitor General Reyneck Matemba who is the lead prosecutor of the case said the state is ready for the appeal.
Matemba said the state will ask the Supreme Court of Appeal to enhance the sentence arguing that the appeal shows a lack of remorse on the part of Mpinganjira.
He also said the intention to appeal is contrary to what Mpinganjira told the court of him being remorseful of events that led to his conviction.
Meanwhile, Matemba acknowledged that the state is satisfied that justice has taken its full course in the case.
He says the nine-year sentence suits Mpinganjira considering the nature of the offenses he was convicted on.
