Denied matchbox by cigarette seller, 2 men stab his son to death

A youth in Mohali was allegedly murdered after an argument over a matchbox. Two men, who asked the youth’s father to give them a matchbox, allegedly stabbed him to death after he refused the same. The incident took place in Sector 82, Chandigarh on Saturday evening.

The accused have been identified as Bhupinder Singh and Rinku. Singh is a resident of Dhan Singh village in Bathinda while Rinku hails from Jagatpura, Mohali.

The victim has been identified as Prince Kumar. A native of Chhapra, Bihar, the 20-year-old youth used to live in Kambala, Kharar with his family.

Kumar had a juice stall in Sector 82 and his father, Mukhtiar Singh, sells cigarettes nearby. On Saturday, the two accused went to Mukhtiar to borrow a matchbox but he refused as they owed him Rs 500. After being denied the matchbox, the accused allegedly started arguing with the Singh, prompting Kumar to rush to his rescue, Hindustan Times reported.

The accused left the spot after the incident but returned later. They allegedly stabbed Kumar in the abdomen several times. He was rushed to a private hospital in Sohana where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The accused were booked under Sections 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They were produced before a court and were sent to three-day police remand. The body was handed over to the deceased’s family after the post-mortem.
