Nankhumwa Wants Govt To Support Families With Food

Leader of Opposition in the August House Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked government to give food support to families who have been affected by hunger in the country.

Nankhumwa’s remarks were a reaction to an assessment report by the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee which has indicated that this year alone over 1 million people are likely to be affected by hunger.

Speaking to the media, Nankhumwa who is also former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice president for the south, suggested that government should fast track the process of providing food aid to the affected families.

According to Nankhumwa, people in the country are sleeping on an empty stomach.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Department of Disaster Management Affairs Kezzie Msukwa, said that government is doing everything it can to assist the affected families.

According Msukwa, at least 29 metric tons of maize are ready for distribution to the affected families.
