A 14-year-old girl, Tiyanjane Makungwa, committed suicide in Mulanje on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 for reasons still unknown.
Mother to the girl, Melenia Makungwa told police that before the fate, she and the girl went to their garden to cultivate and came back later in the day. Makungwa added that when they arrived home, she told her daughter to prepare relish for lunch but the girl said she was tired and went to sleep in her house.
When lunch was ready, another child went to call her only to find that the girl had hanged herself.
Police together with a medical officer from Mulanje District Hospital visited the scene where postmortem singled out suffocation as cause of death.
The deceased came from Mtowa Village, Senior Chief Chikumbu in the district.
