Kalindo To Proceed With Toll Gate Vigils

Activist-cum comedian Bo Kalindo has said he will not backtrack in holding vigils at the Chingeni Toll Gate Plaza in Ntcheu despite government’s move to reduce the toll gate fees.

Over the weekend Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu released a press statement announcing that government has gazetted regulations on the reduced toll gate fee which will be in effect starting from tomorrow, Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, the former United Transformation Nation Executive Committee (NEC) member said that the planned demonstrations will proceed as government has not made other issues clear regarding the toll gate fees.

According to Kalindo, he wants government to agree that motorists will not have to pay the toll gate fees if they are returning the same day once they pay on their first travelling.

Kalindo has therefore said that the demonstrations which were slated for Thursday have now been shifted to Friday this week.

With the gazetted toll gate fees regulations minibuses will now be paying K2000 from the initial K3000 and light vehicles will be paying K1000 from the initial K2000.

Government is yet to comment on the matter.
