60 Year Old Man Arrested For Defiling Niece In Lumbazi

Police in Lumbadzi have arrested a 60 year-old grandfather Cheliyo William for allegedly defiling his 15 year-old niece, a standard 7 primary school learner.

The suspect initially started committing the offence in November, 2021 and periodically kept on defiling her until January 2022 when the matter was revealed.

The incidents happened at Dzoole Village in Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa.

It is alleged that William first asked the victim in November to collect household items at his home, just a stone’s throw away from the victim’s home.

Whilst at the grandpa’s house, the victim was forced to have sexual intercourse with him.

He then threatened her not to reveal the ordeal to anyone by giving her K500 and bought her two doughnuts (mandasi) at a nearby shop.

The victim narrated to Police that the suspect has been having unprotected sexual intercourse with her on several occasions by silencing her with money since November last year.

On Saturday, January 22, 2022 the victim’s mother probed her daughter after noticing some strange behaviour on her.

She denied but later admitted to have been having carnal knowledge with her grandfather.

The suspect was then arrested by Lumbadzi police. The medical examination result from Kamuzu Central Hospital proved that the girl was indeed defiled.

William will appear before court soon to answer a charge of defilement, contrary to section 138 of the Penal code.

He comes from Dzoole Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa.
