DPP To Challenge Nankhumwa’s Injunction Stopping The Party From Summoning Him Over The Use Late Bingu’s Photo

Former ruling Democratic progressive Party (DPP) has said it will challenge an injunction by the party vice president for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa which he obtained stopping the party from summoning him to appear before the disciplinary committee.

The party summoned Nankhumwa over the use of picture of the late president Bingu Wa Mutharika, who is also the party’s founder.

Nankhumwa was expected to appear before the committee today on a charge of undermining the party’s President Peter Mutharika.

Gilbert Khonyongwa, lawyer for Nankhumwa said his client is challenging the formation of the disciplinary committee because it was constituted by the Central Committee.

According to Khonyongwa, DPP laws provide that the disciplinary committee should be constituted by the National Governing Council not the Central Committee.

However, DPP’s spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba, has said that the party will challenge the restraining order.
