Ex-MASM boss Andrew Ngomwa’s rape case back in court for oral submission

Chief Resident Magistrate Jean Kayira has started hearing an oral submission in a rape case involving former Chief Executive Officer for MASM Andrew Ngomwa.

The case failed to resume in February this year after it was noted that Ngomwa and his lawyers were not ready for the case.

In its submission today, the state said despite the convict being the first offender, he took advantage of the victim’s vulnerability who was under his custody.

The state added that the victim who was supposed to sit for MSCE exams dropped out of school due to pregnancy.

The state further argued that convict forced himself on the victim despite knowing his HIV status.

The state has since asked for a stiffer sentence of 40 years.

It has since applied for the committal of the case to the High Court for sentencing.

Ngomwa was convicted on three counts of rape, defilement and indecent practices in the presence of a child.
