Businessman Ahmed Mohammed Chunara arrested over Mk5 billion cement-gate

Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that police in Lilongwe have arrested Ahmed Mohammed Chunara in connection with the ongoing K5 billion cement gate case.

Police officials have confirmed of the arrest in an interview with one of the local daily papers (Nation Publication Limited).

Chunara becomes the fifth suspect to be arrested in connection with the case.Others are businessperson Mahmed Chunara, former president Peter Mutharika’s bodyguard Norman Chisale, former director of State residences Peter Mukhito and Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) deputy commissioner general Roza Mbilizi.

The arrest comes a day before the suspects are expected to appear in court for plea taking.

The five are accused of abusing former president Peter Mutharika’s tax payer identification number (TPIN) to import cement worth K5 billion duty-free.
