Police Arrest Nurse For Insulting President Chakwera On WhatsApp

Police in Ntcheu district have arrested a 39 year old man Chidawawa Mainje for allegedly using obscene language against President Lazarus Chakwera.

According to police statement seen by this publication, Mainje who works as a nurse at Ntcheu district hospital used “obscene and unprintable words on a whatsApp group conversation against the Head of State.”

Face of Malawi understands that Mainje was involved in a heated argument with other people on the WhatsApp group in which they were accusing Tonse Alliance government of failing to fulfil campaign promises.

One of the group’s members took a screenshot of the conversation and send to one of Tonse’s top official who was not pleased with Mainje’s remarks and informed the police about, this publication cannot independently confirm these assertions.

According to the police, Mainje has been charged with cyber harassment contrary to section 86 of the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security of 2016.

Maine who hails from Nsanje district is expected to appear before the court soon to answer charges levelled against him.
