Muslims in the country celebrated Eid-ul-fitr on Monday which marked the end of Islamic Holy Month of Ramadhan with a message of co-existence and unity regardless of their religious, tribal background and political issues in order for the country to achieve development.

Sheikh Abdul Majid Chibwe, Muslim Association of Malawi Halaal Department national coordinator made the appeal during the celebrations at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Sheikh Majid said unity and co-existence are the key pillars for the country to progress not discrimination as most people do.

“Our message is that there should be unity, not only among Muslims, but all Malawians because we live in a society where we have different denominations, we need each other to live peacefully and also effectively contribute to the meaningful development of our country which we need to love”, he said

The Sheikh continued to say that one important aspect that religion promotes is unity, and if all Malawians are united and co-existed they will be able to support each other in good and bad times.

Khadija Wabu, a congregant at the event said it is very important for Malawians to co-exist regardless of their different religious backgrounds.

“We need to live together as one because we are living in a world where we shall always have differences in religious backgrounds. So, what is important is to respect each other and learn how best we can co-exist,” she said.

Ramadhan is a commemoration of the first revelation of the Quran to Muhamad as the Prophet was chosen by God to act as a messenger to human kind and teaching God’s message to the people.
