Supermarkets shun selling of locally manufactured cooking oil

Information sourced by this publication indicates that most of the supermarkets in the country have abandoned selling of locally manufactured cooking oil such as Kukoma, Nano and Mulawe.

The development comes barely days after government through Ministry of Trade and industry set maximum prices for cooking oil in the country.

According to published reports, shops such as Sana and Spar at Ginnery Corner do not have any cooking oil on the shelves while Chipiku and Shoprite are selling imported cooking oil only from South Africa.

The 2 littre bottle of the imported cooking oil selling at MK9699, forcing consumers to resort in sourcing the cooking oil locally.

Government is yet to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, some Malawians are suggesting that the government should pounce on the shop owners and revoke their licenses.
