MISA Malawi mourns MIJ ED Anthony Phanga

The Media Institute of Southern Africa –MISA Malawi chapter has expressed shock over the death of Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) Executive Director Anthony Phanga.

Phanga died on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after a short illness.

In a statement issued on Monday MISA Malawi Chairperson Teresa Ndanga described the death of Phanga as untimely.

“This is a really sad development. Mr. Phanga was central to steering MIJ to the success we see from outside. Under his leadership, we’ve witnessed the training of a new crop of journalists as well as a thriving radio station. The sector has lost a well of wisdom,” said Ndanga.

He joined MIJ as Finance and Administration Manager before rising to the post of Executive Director.

Phanga also worked with Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL), now Times Group, as a Chief Accountant.

Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at his home village around Chitala in Salima.
