Three Men Nabbed Over fake Currency

Police in Kawale, Lilongwe are keeping in custody three men for allegedly printing and forging fake currency.

Kawale police spokesperson Mavuto Phiri confirmed of the development and identified the suspects as Stain Ngomani, 48, Robson Sauzande, 42, and MacDonald Kachepa, 29.

“On August 10, 2022, the first two suspects came to an agro-business shop to buy two bags of maize worthy K34, 000 of which the duo paid cash in form of K2000 bank notes,” says Phiri.

Police investigations led to the arrest of the first two suspects who later revealed the source and producer of the fake money resulting into the arrest of the third suspect in Kaphiri.

The detectives also seized a laptop and a printer which was being used to print the fake money.

Adds Phiri: “After being searched, the suspects were also found with K524, 000 cash in K2000 fake notes.”

The trio will appear in court soon to answer charges of possessing, ultering and forging fake currency contrary to Sections 356 and 360 of the Penal Code.

Ngomani hails from Kwanjiri Village, Traditional Authority Mpama in Chiladzulu while Sauzande is from Temeka Village, Traditional Authority Lundu in Blantyre with Kachepa coming from Amidu Village, Traditional Authority Maganga in Salima District.
