Fuel Shortage Hit Lilongwe, Minibus And Tax Fares May Rise

Information reaching this publication indicates the capital city Lilongwe has been hit by fuel shortage

During spot checks by MIJ, it has found out that most filling stations do not have fuel, a situation that has caused panic among motorists.

MIJ has also found that Kawale Engen and Area 2 Puma filling stations have run dry.

There are fears that taxi and minibus fares may rise due to this situation.

Eric Phiri, one of the Taxi operators said life is becoming unbearable as they are busy looking around for fuel instead of ferrying customers.

Phiri says the situation will lead into a hike in the fares.

Meanwhile, Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) official are yet to comment on the matter.
