MANGOCHI CHIEF ADVISES PEOPLE NOT TO DUMP WASTE ON BEACHES

Group Village Head Chembe of cape Maclear in Mangochi has urged people not to dump waste on beaches along Lake Malawi.

During the launch on Wednesday which was organized by Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM) and International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) Chembe said this bad behavior might affect tourism in this district.

Chembe said,“The beach used to be a clean place and it attracted more tourists all over the world but as of today it looks bad and it can no longer attract tourists.”

WESM Monkey Bay Branch Chairperson Paul Mwasesa said in collaboration with ICC, they rolled out the clean-up excerse to make the beach look the way it used to long ago.

“We want the beach to start attracting tourists as it used to do, we hope the clean-up exercise will help,” he said.

Lake Malawi National Park senior parks and wildlife assistant Amos Chiuta praised the two organizations for the clean-up exercise.

Poor sanitation can make tourist to lose interest of visiting our lake and some materials such as plastics can be hazardous to aquatic animals such as fish.

Community members joined the clean-up exercise which will he conducted on Monday and Friday Every week.
