PROTESTS HAUNT UNIMA STUDENTS, ASKED TO PAY FOR DAMAGES

The University of Malawi (UNIMA) board has demanded students to pay for the damages of property they destroyed during their protests last month.

The students took to the streets protesting against the institution’s revised academic calendar which would have seen student spending almost five months at home for holiday.

Reports say that the institution will re-open on December 5, 2022 provided the student have met their end of the demand which is to carter for the damages.

Meanwhile, the management of UNIMA has bowed to the demands of the students that they will merge two cohorts using a blended approach in March 2023.

This means that the students will no longer have to spend five months on holiday a problem that led to their demonstrations at the institution.
