Chizuma’s arrest comes as she expected to attend a meeting at Kamuzu palace

Unconfirmed reports indicate the director general of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Martha Chizuma had a meeting before her at Kamuzu Palace before the arrest.

Reports says Chizuma was supposed to be at Kamuzu palace at 10:30 am today.

National police spokesperson Peter Kalaya, confirmed that Chizuma is in their custody but could not divulge more details.

According to reports, Chizuma is being kept at Namitete police station for “safe keeping”

Martha Kaukonde, one of Chizuma’s lawyers said the police arrest her around 4 am today.

Kaukonde believes that Chizuma’s arrest is in connection with the leaked audio in which she was discussing work related issues to unknown individual.

The arrest has come in the middle of high profile arrests by the bureau on alleged high level corruption.
