Commissioner of Police Babra Mchenga Tsiga has urged girls from Traditional Authority (T/A) Njewa in Lilongwe to avoid dropping out of school and getting married early for them to be the future responsible citizens.
Tsiga said this on Monday at Nakuwawa Primary School in the district, where the Forum for Africa Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA) organized an open day and role modeling session.
Tsiga told the girls not to take their challenges as a barrier of dropping out of school.
“Do not be pushed away by your challenges, but look forward and have a positive mindset to see what you may become in future. The FEWEMA organization is doing a great job in promoting girls’ education in Malawi and we have to play the same role to unsure that girls get educated.” Tsiga said.
FAWEMA Executive Director, Wesley Chabwera said the will program will be expanded especially in areas that are difficult to reach like rural areas.
Chabwera said, “We thought it wise to bring role models like nurses, police officers and teachers to encourage the girls to proceed with their education, we are in the period of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and we believe education is the powerful tool to address the vice.”
FAWEMA is non-governmental organization that brings together women educationalists in order to promote girls and women education in Malawi.
