BLANTYRE DHO TURNS MAKHETHA CLINIC INTO CHOLERA CAMP

The Blantyre District Health Office (DHO) has turned Makhetha Clinic into a cholera camp which resulted into suspension of other services that were being offered at the clinic.

Blantyre DHO spokesperson Chrissy Banda said the decision was made following the increase in number of cases of the outbreak in the area.

According to Banda, other patients are being referred to the nearest health centers such as Limbe and South Lunzu.

“The huge rise in the cases is a clear indication that there are issues of poor hygiene and sanitation in our communities. We urge those presenting with cholera symptoms to rush to the nearest health facility for treatment, “said Banda.

The office of DHO has disclosed that it has received 90 000 doses of cholera vaccine which has already been distributed to health centers especially those are receiving more cases of the outbreak.

“We are working 24 hours attending to the patients. Among those admitted are four children with the youngest aged 11 months,” said Kadzinje.
