People residing along Lake Malawi asked to stop using the water in the wake of Cholera outbreak

Member of Parliament (MP) for Mangochi Lutende Constituency has urged people living along Lake Malawi to stop using water drawn from the lake for laundry and other household chores to prevent further spread of the cholera outbreak.

Legislature Idrisa Kazembe made the statement during the donation of cholera treatment items at Lungwena Health Center on Sunday.

According to Kazembe, figures indicate that more people staying along Lake Malawi are registering a lot of cholera cases due to the habit of using the water for household requirements.

Kazembe has also urged Chiefs to inform subjects to stick to preventive measures that are being advised by health officials to prevent Cholera.

Lungwena Health Center In-Charge Paul Kumala said the facility is having a catchment area of over 42, 000 and still registering five cases of Cholera per day, and as of Sunday 14 patients were admitted.

Kumala has asked all well-wishers to help the hospital with treatment, tents, chlorine and water guard.
