Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, John Bande has advised community members in Mangochi to drink safe and clean water to prevent cholera and other waterborne diseases.
Bande said this at M’baluku in Mangochi, when he toured Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) treatment plant and water kiosks to appreciate how the board is providing safe piped drinking water amidst the Cholera outbreak on Saturday.
According to Bande, SRWB is providing safe and potable water in Mangochi Town and surrounding areas, saying government is committed to continue providing safe water to every Malawian.
Bande expressed concern with the community members that they had to fetch water from unprotected source, knowing that it contributes to increase in cholera cases.
Chief Executive Officer for SRWB, Duncan Chambamba praised Bande for visiting Mangochi and appreciating the SRWB facilities.
Chambamba said SRWB is committed provide safe, reliable and affordable water to people in the country.
“Our mandate is to provide water to our customers in the southern region and the board will continue to do so,” he said.
Government through SRWB is constructing an intake, water treatment plant at Nkhudzi Bay in Mangochi and the board is currently laying pipes for supply of water under Nkhudzi Bay potable water project to improve safe water supply in the district.
