Business Operators Express Doubts Over Government’s Progress in Relocating Refugees to Camp

Malawi – Business operators in the country have expressed concern over the government’s progress in relocating refugees and asylum seekers back to the Dzaleka Camp in Dowa district.

The relocation process, which was supposed to be completed by January 31st, 2023, is currently facing financial difficulties.

The Minister of Homeland and Security, Jean Sendeza, revealed that the Ministry is awaiting K300 million from the treasury in order to continue the relocation process.

However, this news has caused worry among small-scale business operators in the area.

The President of the small-scale business operators, Tennyson Mlumbira, said they hope that the targeted time will be met and that their businesses will start doing well again.

He added that the presence of refugees in the area has been a major contributor to the economic downturn of their businesses.
