Man killed by angry mob in Kasungu after being caught for alleged house burglaries

A 28-year-old man identified as John Mbewe Chama was killed by an angry mob in Kaning’a village, Kasungu after he was caught for allegedly breaking into two houses and stealing various items.

According to Kasungu police spokesperson Joseph Kachikho, Chama broke into the houses on Tuesday and was spotted by a daughter of the owner of the first house.

He allegedly threatened her with harm if she shouted for help, but she did so regardless.

Chama was subsequently apprehended by the mob and taken to Kanyungwe stream, where he was severely beaten.

The police have condemned the violent act and emphasized that it hinders their investigations.

An investigation is underway to identify and arrest those responsible for Chama’s death, who will face legal action.

Chama was originally from Mtondo Village in Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu.
