Driver fined MK1.4 million for killing two Marymount Secondary School Students

First grade magistrate court in Mzuzu has fined a bus driver who caused accidents to students from Marymount Secondary School, Duncan Folotiya Ngwende aged 44 money amounting to K1, 450, 000 or serve 48 months jail sentence.

Following the incident that happened on January 3rd 2023, Magistrate McKnight Makaika found Ngwende guilty of six counts that include two of causing death by careless driving, three counts of causing injuries by reckless driving and one count of breaking road rules and regulations.

Due to reckless driving, Ngwende was involved in an accident which claimed lives of two students from Marymount secondary school, where as a number of other students sustained several injuries both major and minor ones.

The bus accident took place on January 3rd 2023 at Luviri in Mzimba district.

According to Mzuzu police spokesperson, Paul Tembo, the driver has since paid the fine in full.
