70 Year-Old Woman Commits Suicide Over Witchcraft Accusation

A 70-year old woman has committed suicide in Thyolo in circumstances police claim; come days after communities accused her of practicing witchcraft.
Thyolo Police deputy spokesperson Sergeant Rabecca Kashoti has identified the deceased as Esther Makupe.
According to Kashot, the incident has happened Yesterday on 12 July 2023 Maluwa village Traditional Authority Thukuta after the deceased had left home in the morning with an intent of visiting a relative on the Mozambican side.
Kashoti alleges that last week, some community members accused the deceased of teaching children witchcraft.
Postmortem shows death was due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.
