Woman arrested for setting ablaze boyfriend’s house in Kasungu

Police in Kasungu have arrested a 26-year-old woman, Omega Pemba, for allegedly setting ablaze a house belonging to his boyfriend.

Public Relations Officer for Kasungu Police Station, Sub Inspector Joseph Kachikho said the incident happened on August 15, 2023 at Nkhoma Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nyaza in Kasungu District.

“It has been established that the suspect was in a relationship with Blessings Chikapa and in the course of their relationship, misunderstandings erupted between them which were solved by elders. This did not please the suspect who travelled from Dowa to Kasungu.

“It was around 23:30 hours when Chikapa noticed that his house was on fire and instantly rushed out to put off the fire, but efforts failed as the fire spread quickly leading to completely burnt of all belongings worth K7,930,000.00.

“The matter was reported to police where scene was visited and the suspect was arrested,” he said.

The suspect, who comes from Ndewe Village in Traditional Authority Kayembe in Dowa District, will appear before court soon to answer a charge of arson.
