Tabitha Chawinga Nominated for World African Woman in Sport Award

Women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga receives a nomination for the World African Woman in Sport Awards from gsport.co.za, based in South Africa.

The China-based Scorchers captain is among the nominees, competing against Kenyan middle and long-distance athlete Faith Kipyego and South African FIFA referee Akhona Makalima.

Tabitha Chawinga’s nomination is based on her outstanding performances in Italy, where she played during a season-long loan from China’s Wuhan Jianghan.

The statement on the gsport.co.za website highlights her historic achievement as the first African player to secure the 2023 Italian Serie A Women’s Golden Boot Award. This recognition is attributed to her remarkable feat of scoring 23 goals for Inter Milan Women during the 2022/2023 season, showcasing her skill and dedication to the sport.
