Man Burned to Death for Alleged Motorcycle Theft in Mchinji

A tragic incident unfolded when enraged members of a community in Kamange Village burned a 30-year-old man named Akim Kapachika to death. They accused him of stealing a motorcycle on August 31, 2023.

The situation escalated when, just a day later, Kapachika was spotted in possession of the stolen motorcycle in Katenthe Village. Angry villagers apprehended him and subjected him to a brutal assault before setting his body on fire.

Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer, Limbani Mpinganjira, expressed their commitment to bringing justice to the situation.

He mentioned that the police have launched investigations to apprehend all those involved in the horrific act, emphasizing that mob justice is a crime punishable by law.

Akim Kapachika, the victim of this violent incident, hailed from Kathungo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Simphasi within the Mchinji district.
