The police in Mzuzu have arrested former Justice Minister, Ralph Kasambara, this morning over the attempted murder of Budget Director in the Ministry of Finance, Paul Mphwiyo.
Kasambara, who once doubled as the Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the current Joyce Banda regime, was arrested in Mzuzu this morning after police hunted for him but to no avail yesterday. Deputy Police spokesperson, Davie Chingwalu, and Minister of Justice, Fahad Assani, have both confirmed of Kasambara’s arrest.
According to information obtained, one of the suspects in the shooting of Paul Mphwiyo, Pika Manondo, is the one who linked Kasambara to the shooting. Manondo is also a close ally of Kasambara.
However, it has been said that Manondo pleaded with the Police to keep him safe from Kasambara as he had the potential to get rid of him in a mafia style.
This is not the first time for lawyer Kasambara who was described as a crook by the late Mutharika to be arrested. The late Mutharika regime arrested him on charges of torture even though he had earlier fell out of favour with Mutharika himself and was fired as attorney general.
