“Malawi vision 2063 is possible through Unity”- Chakwera

President Lazarus Chakwera has said that the Malawi vision 2063 cannot be achieved if others are left behind due to lack of unity and cooperation.

Chakwera made the call at Chilimampunga Ground in Lilongwe, Mtandile, during the inaugural Unity Day celebrations.

The Malawi leader, has asked all Malawian to hold hands and not allow others to divide them because of political or religious issues.

“Let’s join hands to fight hunger, envy, corruption and other things that will destroy unity in this country.

“This is the vision I have been in pursuit for the past three years by going to every region of the country to remind every citizen occupying every district of Malawi, including far places like Likoma Island, that they are all part of this country and that they matter to its development, “said Chakwera.

In his speech, Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda praised Chakwera for establishing this day, saying that it has given Malawians an opportunity to come together regardless of party, religion or culture.

“Political time will be political, let us know that it is possible to make politics without insulting each other, it is possible to preach without insulting another religion, it is also possible for MPs to argue in the parliament without insulting each other; we are proud of this peace, we see it as simple but it is expensive”, said Banda.

At the event President Lazarus Chakwera directed that every first Thursday of each November will be “Umodzi Day” whereby all Malawians will be commemorating peace and unity.
