RBM speaks out on fire rumours at Mzuzu branch

The Reserve Bank of Malawi has dismissed fears that there was fire at the Mzuzu branch of the central bank.

The Central Bank’s spokesperson, Mark Lungu says it was simply a fire drill which is a planned and rehearsed exercise designed to practice and evaluate the procedures and actions to be taken in the event of a fire.

Lungu says this should not cause worry.

Around noon this afternoon, plumes of smoke engulfed part of the Reserve Bank of Malawi Mzuzu Branch and firefighters were seen around the vicinity.

Scores of people also gathered near the bank as this was happening.
