Chilima’s corruption case adjourned to January 2024

Justice Redson Kapindu has set January 12, 2024 as the day he will deliver ruling on various “preliminary issues” raised in the case involving Vice-President Saulos Chilima.

This is in in relation to a case in which Chilima is being accused of allegedly demanding and receiving unspecified amount of money from businessperson Zunneth Sattar to influence award of public contracts.

Among the issues Kapindu is expected to make a ruling on, is on whether the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) should release some documents that the defence demanded as part of disclosures.

The MDF argues that the requested documents are confidential and raise security concerns.

But the defence is of the view that without these documents their client may not be subjected to fair trial.

The ACB is prosecuting the matter.
