Police in Mponela, Dowa District, are keeping in custody a-35-year-old man for the offence of being found in possession of cannabis sativa, locally known as Chamba, without licence.
He was identified as Harry Eladi, who hails from Zidana village in the area of Traditional Authority Gomani in Ntcheu District.
Mponela Police Public Relations Officer, Macpatson Msadala said the incident occurred on January 25, 2024 at around 2pm at Mponela Trading Centre.
Mponela Police detectives received information from well wishers that the suspect was in possession of chamba without licence.
Following a tip-off, police made a follow-up leading to the arrest of the suspect and seizure of the said chamba in the process.
The suspect was found with 168 twists of chamba and three plastic bags of chamba but without licence.
The suspect will appear before court soon.
