In the ongoing trial involving Tadikira Mafubza, the last State witness, William Phiri, admitted that Mafubza was not involved in hiring the Scania truck used in the trafficking case.
During cross-examination, Phiri agreed that, besides owning the truck, Mafubza had no other dealings with co-accused, including the driver, Samuel Navaya.
The defence stressed the importance of call logs to ascertain if Navaya had contacted Mafubza during the crucial time in the forest, challenging previous claims of ignored calls.
The witness acknowledged the potential independence of drivers, agreeing that it was “very possible” for them to run errands without their bosses’ knowledge.
