In line with the donor demands and to appear looking financially prudent as well as living in line with the practice of austerity measures, the country’s President Joyce Banda sold the Presidential jet that was bought by his predecessor despite a huge outcry from the donor community.

However, the controversy that surrounded President Banda’s selling of the jet refuses to die with new reports indicating that the President is no longer flying in the ‘public’ airline transports but has as well resorted to using a chartered private plane which is another costly exercise.

At first, President Banda was accused of not explaining where the proceeds of the sold jet went to with many speculating that they found their way somehow into her own bank account.

The reports, which indicate that the President now uses a chartered plane registration number ZS-FCI, have placed the President in bad light and have vindicated those who claimed that the President did not sell the Presidential jet in good faith.
