CHREAA Condemns Rising Acts Of Mob Justice In Malawi

The Center for Human Right Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA) has expressed worries over the rising cases of mob justice in Malawi.

In press statement released by CHREAA dated 26 March 2024, Malawi has registered more cases of mob justice.

“Mob justice has no place in any society and no circumstances can ever justify the use torture on offenders as a tool to deal with them” leads the statement.

The statement, comes barely after two days Dowa police arrested 12 villagers for accusing an old woman identified as Lunia Mafikeni who was suspected to be witch following the death if her nephew.

The villagers, stormed Mafikeni’s house and set a blaze her house and stole some properties worthy k6,590,000.

CHREAA, has cited the crime case in Mangochi when the suspect was tied to a car trailer dragged to police station.

However, CHREAA has urged the general public to reflect on the law that every person must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court of law.
