MUST to use Poly and CoM laboratories

Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) which is set to be open in ‘a few weeks time’ will have to be commuting from Ndata, Thyolo, to Blantyre to use the laboratory facilities at the University of Malawi institutions namely The Polytechnic and College of Medicine for their practical purposes.

This development comes as a result of a shortage of infrastructures at the institution, namely laboratories.

Speaking in an interview, the minister of education, Lucius Kanyumba, said that despite the University having called applications from prospective students, it is yet to be fully equipped. He, however, hastened to add that all was not lost as the ministry would liaise the University with the University of Malawi so that its students could access the laboratories of Poly and CoM as they await the furnishing to use of their own.

MUST, also referred to as Ndata University, is a brain child of the fallen head of state, Bingu wa Mutharika, who had announced a dream of having many universities in the land so as to increase access to higher education especially after the controversial quota system.

The University of Malawi already reels from the burden of having students that cannot match resources and it is yet to be seen how its accommodating of MUST students will impact on it.
