Ex-FAM Vice President Othaniel Hara dies in road accident, burial tomorrow

Former Football Association of Malawi second vice president, Othaniel Hara has died in a car accident.

Northern Region Football Association General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu said the accident took place around Edundu in Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District.

In an interview, Northern Region Police spokesperson, Maurice Chapola said Hara was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, BR7252 lost control of the vehicle.

He added the car swerved and hit the road embankment before overturning.

“Hara sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzuzu Central Hospital.

“He was heading towards Ekwendeni from Ezondweni. The motor vehicle had its front windscreen damaged, roof and passengers door depressed, nearside view mirror got damaged, he was alone in the car,” Chapola explained.

Hara, 56, hailed from Dunduzule Hara Village in Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District.

The body of Hara will be laid to rest tomorrow at his home village in Mzimba.
